Trust

As I'm looking out my window, I've been pondering of late, specifically the word TRUST.

Who do I trust and who do I not? Do I trust people I've never met? Is trust related to people, places, and things? How long does it take before I trust (is there a pattern)? Has my trust changed over time in regards to circumstance?

What does God mean when He talks about trust?

Practical Example:

Recently my hubby and I, now retired, bought a camper (yay!) On it's maiden voyage home farther north, it was a very warm day on our overnight stop in the south. As we set up up camp, we tried to open a window. Nope. Tried another one. Nope. A third, nope. Handsome Handy Hubby said he would be able to get them open. I did believe that he could. Why:

Belief: In law terms: Convinced of a truth of a statement. I sure did. Why? Because I married a man who reads every handbook and instruction manual.

That leads to trust. How? Trust relates to character and over the years, I have learned by experience, he will find out a way. If all else fails, it'll take a mountain moved, but he will call for help.

Trust: a reliance based on evidence, experience.

He tried to open the same windows. Nope. He got out a card from his wallet and ran it between the seal and the window on the outside. Nope.

Next he got out some lubricant the former owners had left in a bag with some other supplies. For windows! Reminds me of the tinman on the Wizard of Oz.... He waited the required time. Nope. Maybe it just needs longer. It was sitting in the sun for almost a year. Next day, nothing.

Here is where faith comes knocking. By all normal methods, those windows are stuck.

Faith: Active confiction that persists in the face of uncertainty.

Handsome Handy Hubby wasn't even frustrated. He said that if they didn't release when we got home (maybe they needed extra soaking with the lubrication between the seal and the glass), he would just unscrew the inside screens and deal with it by separating the rubber seal from the glass. Lots of work. Hopefully no broken windows, but it was a matter of time, patience, and maybe expense. He is also wise.

As you can probably surmise, the windows did open. We may never know the exact reason they just decided to ALL open when parked a few days later at home. The likelihood is the lubricant soaking in for a couple days. It may have been partly due to sliding that card around all the edges first. Perhaps it had to do with all the rain we went through while driving and helped to loosen. I joked maybe it was all the jostling of the camper on the road for several days with bumps and pot holes.

All I do know is, Handsome Handy Hubby was ready with tools, more lubricant, towels, a step stool, and a willing heart to restore those windows. I will bless with happiness the one who trusts in me,

the one who trusts in me alone.

He is like a tree planted on the riverbank

extending its roots into streams of water.

It does not fear when scorching heat comes,

for its leaves remain fresh and never fading

even in a year of drought.

It has no anxieties but continues to bear luscious fruit.
